Greetings and welcome to the “Who The Fuck Am I?” post written by yours truly, whoever the fuck I am. Now that I’m back on my Fandom bullshit again in at least 2 blogs, I thought I’d re-introduce myself.

I am 2nd gen Korean-American on the Best West Coast. I ID as she/they/shiro, and ace/demi. I’m in the millennial bracket (aka, I am a Legal Adult) so be mindful when interacting with me. I do what I can to be antiracist and am always learning to be better.

I am some iteration of “shirozora” on: LiveJournal, Dreamwidth, AO3, Tumblr, Twitter, Instagram, Discord. My first Fandom 2.0 was political/pundit RPF and my first fandom fallout was Racefail '09, so you could say I’ve Seen Some Shit. Been 5+ years since I last engaged in actual Fandom, yet here the fuck I am.

I suffered from artist’s block for almost 4 years. That ended when I became utterly fixated on “So Grogu has two dads now - oh no.” I fucking ragequit Star Wars after the fucking world lied to me about The Last Jedi* and now I’m doing the most insane and involved fanworks because of Star Wars. The fuck???

*I hate The Last Jedi the most not just because it’s racist sexist garbage that trashed everyone except Kylo Ren whoever the fuck he thinks he is, and jumpstarted some of the most toxic fandom behavior I had the displeasure of witnessing, but also because I read so much praise for it before walking into the theater, paying for a ticket with my own money, and realizing 5 minutes into the film that I was gonna have the worst time of my life. I can’t and probably will never watch Knives Out because I still haven’t forgiven the director for the psychological damage. This is 100% a TLJ Hate Zone.

When he was asked to be in Jimmy Kimmel’s “I’m Fucking Ben Affleck” video, in which he pulled up alongside them in a car and gave Jimmy a little wink and an air-kiss, when he showed up at the set he looked kind of put out. Kimmel was afraid he wasn’t down with what they were asking. But he just said, “I don’t know, this wardrobe…don’t you have anything mesh that I could wear?”

When he was filming “Witness” he rented a small farm from a friend of mine. At the end of the filming my friend went and checked out the property as usual. He noticed the barn door had been leveled so it no longer would swing open on it’s own. Went into the house and saw the closets had been redone, in the kitchen the cabinets had been replaced and all the drawers now opened really well. Turns out that there were thousands of dollars of work and materials put into fixing up everything at the place.

My friend called Ford and asked him how much he was asking for the work. Ford told him doing that kind of thing helped him relax and stay sane when he was filming. Would not take a dime. Plus he paid for a new water heater and got the sewage system cleaned out.

And he paid rent to live there the entire time.

Must have intuited this. I remember when I was 19 and working in an assisted living place that gave me no real heads up certain residents had dementia and alzheimers (probably because they weren’t supposed to take them). I found a woman who wasn’t dressed at all trying to lug an empty suitcase out of the building at 4am and the other aid (there were only 2 of us for 50 people) was busy. I say “oh where are you off to?” You know. Surprised. And she says that she has to get out of here. And I say “okay well let’s go pack that suitcase then” hoping that’ll buy time. And she goes okay and we go back to her room. And she’s packing, clearly agitated, and I have no training on this so I’m looking around the room thinking fuck how am I gonna stop her from leaving all by myself and I notice everything in the room is yellow so I blurt out “what’s your favorite color?” And that woman freezes and looks at me so confused and goes “you know, I’m not sure” and for some reason she didn’t want to keep packing after that and got back in bed.

I tell my parents about it. They think it’s the funniest thing. I forget about it. Years later my mom is taking care of my grandmother as she’s declining and who was getting really angry and agitated with some doctors and in my mom’s panic to calm my grandmother down my mom, remembering me, blurts out “what’s your favorite color?” And this apparently threw my grandmother enough that she calmed down and the doctors were like woah great thinking you must have some training and my mom was all like no no my kid is a CNA, I learned from them.

And I didn’t have the heart to tell her that was in no way my training and 100% me panicking out loud to an elderly woman determined to take an au natural vacation.

As someone who gets to bring joy to others daily on tv, it’s been ironic that I don’t experience it as much as I’d like. I advocate mental health for all and a part of that is self transparency. In doing my work, I’ve come to see a few truths, one of them being that I want to be free to l love whomever I want. This truth makes me pan and part of the lgbtq+ family. It’s scary as hell to say it out loud but here it is. The people I admire most are the ones brave enough to be themselves unapologetically.
